Scuba and Snorkel for a Cause

Lindsey Arcand (Survivor) and Rachel Winn (Best Friend and Co-Survivor)

We’re excited to announce that Aaron’s Dive Shop in Kailua will be holding a Breast Cancer Awareness Scuba Dive and Snorkeling Fundraiser for us in October!

Rachel Winn, who is an assistant manager at the shop, is organizing the event in honor of her best friend, Lindsey Arcand. Lindsey was recently diagnosed with breast cancer at the young age of 30 and is currently undergoing 16 rounds of chemotherapy. Rachel was initially in disbelief and shock when she heard about her best friend’s diagnosis. She has since supported Lindsey every step of the way from visiting her at the hospital during her mastectomy surgery to helping her shave her head as her hair started to fall out from the chemotherapy.

They both share a love for the ocean and the scuba event is a way for them to raise awareness regarding breast cancer in young women, while raising funds for Breast Cancer Hawaii. The event will be held at Electric Beach (Kahe Beach Park) on Sat. October 27 at 8 AM. The scuba portion of the event consists of a one-tank guided shore dive open to anyone who is Open Water certified. A breast cancer survivor will be one of the guides. For those of you that are not scuba certified, but can swim, you are welcome to join us for the snorkel portion.

Participation fee is $65 per scuba diver (gear NOT included) and $35 per snorkeler (gear included). The fee includes a commemorative t-shirt designed by Rachel, as well as drinks and snacks. All proceeds will be donated to us (Breast Cancer Hawaii) and will help us continue providing you with timely information relevant to the local breast cancer community, as well as host educational workshops. To sign up, please call Aaron’s Dive Shop at (808) 262-2333.
