HEARTS for Ohana

Hope Encouragement Activities Resources Trust Support

This program supports families where a parent has been diagnosed with cancer. Our goal is to support the whole family, particularly the children. Hawaii currently faces a gap in direct services and resources for children whose parent is facing a cancer diagnosis.

Our current services include a directory of local family therapists that have experience with cancer patients, family events and workshops, and keiki care kits. A family retreat is planned for summer 2022.

Local Family Therapist Directory

We've compiled a list of local family therapists with experience in serving the cancer community that are currently accepting new patients. This list has been compiled by volunteers as a community service and a listing does not imply endorsement by our organization. If you know of anyone who should be added to this list, please let us know :)

Keiki Care Kits

If you are a breast cancer patient newly diagnosed or currently in treatment, you can request a Keiki Care Kit for any children under the age of 18 years old that live with you. The kit may include items such as activity workbooks, art supplies, toys, games, and an encouraging note.

Our volunteers tailor the kits based on your child's age and interests. Our hope is that the children will have something positive to look forward to during this challenging time for your family. We will ship out a different kit each month for 6 months.

Notes of Hope

Ready-made templates are available for children to write notes to other children to let them know that they are not alone in their situation. These notes will be included in the Keiki Care Kits that are sent to children whose parent is currently undergoing or pending cancer treatment. Contact us at hello@breastcancerhawaii.org to request a note template.

Support Events

Various events and workshops are being planned for parents and children affected by breast cancer, including a summer retreat in 2022!
