Sarah's Chapter
Our Story Series
Sarah is a resilient individual who takes pride in maintaining her health. She loves to meditate, go for a morning workout at the gym, and watch Korean dramas. In 2003, Sarah was diagnosed with stage 1 breast cancer and promptly began treatment. She began with a lumpectomy, followed by 6 weeks of chemotherapy and radiation, and then finally was on a prescription for 5 years.
Sarah says the biggest challenge was,
Early on when diagnosed was hard. It took me some time to accept my diagnosis, then I was able to go forward with my treatment.
Sarah believes being your biggest advocate is key to sustaining a strong mindset during treatment and recovery.
Although the journey was hard, Sarah has no regrets and believes that her diagnosis was a fundamental part of her life. Sarah shares,
I was able to go forward because of my positive attitude and feeling blessed. I feel I motivated myself. Take one step at a time. Be patient with yourself. Love yourself. Be thankful for what you have, even the little things. Be strong. Do not give up or give in. You are your own best advocate.
Sarah is now thriving in normalcy through cultivating her interest in gardening and maintaining her health.
