Mother's Day Blog

This Mother’s Day, we’re honored to share the story of Lauren Agena, a local breast cancer survivor, and her mother, Pam.

Editor's Note

Happy Mother's Day to all mother's and mother figures! This blog was written by Pamela Minn, mother of Lauren Agena who was diagnosed with stage 4 breast cancer at the age of 41. Their story is a powerful reminder of the strength, love, and unwavering support that loved ones provide.

From attending medical appointments to emotional breakdowns, my mom has been my constant support throughout this journey. - Lauren Agena (daughter)

How did you found out about your daughter's cancer and what was your reaction?

In August 2023, my daughter Lauren Agena had surgery to remove a lump on her neck, left side. Biopsy results showed the presence of cancer cells. WHAT...? We don’t have Cancer in our family...YOU GOTTA BE KIDDING. I was in complete disbelief...this could NOT be true!!! However, when we went to Dr. Axton, her Oncologist (who is the BEST), she gave us a clear picture of Lauren’s diagnosis: Stage 4 because she had a tumor in her left lymph node, 2 in left breast, 1 in left lung!!! OMGEE we have a BATTLE to prepare for. I was not going to let this horrible disease take the life from my Beautiful Baby Girl, who has much MORE living and HAPPINESS to experience. GAME ON DUMB CANCER...this is only Round 1 and we’re going to KNOCK YOU OUT before you can do anymore damage to OUR LAUREN!!!

What actions did you take to help you through your journey?

We reached out to ALL Family and Friends to let them know of Lauren’s Cancer Diagnosis. It’s unbelievable the amount of support we received. Prayer Groups, food prepared for us, visits, advice about foods, clean water, Doterra Oils, SOUR SOP TEA (from the tree in our yard). After going through a very emotional rollercoaster with Family and Friends, I decided CANCER was our enemy and told Lauren WE are going to prepare for WAR against this enemy! We need to arm ourselves with the BEST “ammunition” we can get our hands on!

Lauren’s latest CAT scan in May 2025 showed ALL tumors are GONE!!! Just like the previous 3 CAT scans. Her diagnosis now is NED (No Evidence of Disease). HALLELUJAH...PRAISE THE LORD!!! However, she will continue with the HEALTHY lifestyle she has “armed” herself with.

Do you have any advice for other moms who might be on a similar path?

SUPPORT, SUPPORT, SUPPORT your Daughter, Sister, Friend, Wife...NEVER GIVE UP

My advice to other Mothers and Family Members on this similar path? SUPPORT, SUPPORT, SUPPORT your Daughter, Sister, Friend, Wife...NEVER GIVE UP! Arm yourself with the BEST ammunition to fight this horrible disease. I pray researchers will find a CURE FOR CANCER!!!
